Tikal National Park in March
Great time to visit
March is one of the best months to visit Tikal National Park.
All Months
December through April gives you the driest weather and clearest skies for those Temple IV sunrise shots. But here's the catch – everyone else knows this too. March sees the biggest crowds, especially during Semana Santa when half of Guatemala City seems to descend on the park. January and February offer the sweet spot: dry trails, fewer tourists, and wildlife that's easier to spot since the jungle is less dense. The wet season from May to November turns trails muddy but brings the forest to life. Howler monkeys are more active, birds are everywhere, and you might have entire temples to yourself. Just pack good rain gear and waterproof bags. Early morning visits work year-round – arrive at 6 AM opening for the best wildlife viewing and cooler temperatures. Avoid weekends if possible, especially Sundays when Guatemalan families flock here for day trips.
