Antigua Guatemala in January

Antigua's eternal spring climate means you can visit year-round, but timing matters for different reasons. The dry season runs November through April — these months offer the clearest volcano views and least chance of rain interrupting your sightseeing. December through February brings the most comfortable temperatures, usually 65-75°F during the day and cool enough for sweaters at night. This is peak tourist season, so expect higher prices and crowded attractions. Book accommodations well in advance, especially around Christmas and New Year. March and April heat up slightly but still feel pleasant. Easter week (Semana Santa) transforms Antigua into Guatemala's spiritual capital. Elaborate processions wind through the streets, and locals create intricate alfombras (sawdust carpets) for the religious parades to pass over. It's spectacular but also the busiest time of year. The rainy season (May through October) doesn't mean constant downpours — typically you'll get sunny mornings and afternoon thunderstorms. Hotels drop their rates, crowds thin out, and the surrounding mountains turn brilliant green. Just pack an umbrella and waterproof shoes for those cobblestones. Avoid September and October if possible. These months see the heaviest rains, and clouds often obscure the volcanoes for days at a time.
