Western Cape in December

Great time to visit

December is one of the best months to visit Western Cape.

All Months

Summer (November to March) is peak season and for good reason. The weather is warm and dry, perfect for beaches, wine tasting, and outdoor activities. December and January are busiest - expect crowds and higher prices, especially around the holidays. But the energy in Cape Town during summer is electric, with outdoor concerts and festivals. Shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October) offer the best balance. You'll still get good weather with fewer crowds and better prices. April is particularly lovely - the harvest season in wine country with warm days and cool evenings. Winter (June-August) brings rain and cooler temperatures, but it's whale season along the coast. Hermanus becomes whale-watching central, and accommodation prices drop significantly. The mountains might get snow, which looks spectacular against the African landscape. Spring (September-November) is wildflower season. The fynbos explodes in color, particularly in the West Coast National Park. Weather can be unpredictable, but when it's good, it's perfect.
