Wadi Rum Protected Area in December

Great time to visit

December is one of the best months to visit Wadi Rum Protected Area.

All Months

October through April is your window. Summer temperatures hit 45°C and make hiking impossible. Winter nights drop to 5°C, so pack layers even in December. The sweet spot is November and March – warm days, cool nights, and clear skies perfect for stargazing. Ramadan affects some services, but many Bedouin camps stay open since tourism is their livelihood. Check lunar calendars before booking – new moon phases offer the best night sky viewing, while full moons light up the landscape for dramatic photos. Spring brings occasional wildflowers to the desert floor, usually in late February. Avoid Jordanian school holidays in July and August when domestic tourism peaks. The shoulder months of May and September are doable if you start activities before 9 AM and after 4 PM.
