Visayas in January
Great time to visit
January is one of the best months to visit Visayas.
All Months
The Visayas enjoys eternal summer, but timing still matters. December through May brings the dry season — clear skies, calm seas, and perfect beach weather. This is peak season, so expect higher prices and crowded beaches, especially around Christmas and Easter.
March and April offer the sweet spot: dry weather with fewer crowds as kids return to school. Water visibility peaks during these months, making it ideal for diving and snorkeling. Temperatures hover around 85°F (29°C), with cooling trade winds.
The wet season runs June through November, but don't write it off completely. Morning showers clear by afternoon, and you'll have beaches to yourself. Hotel rates drop by 30-50%, and the landscape turns impossibly green. Just avoid September and October when typhoons are most likely.
Here's the thing about Philippine weather — it's unpredictable. I've seen perfect sunshine in July and week-long rains in March. The Visayas sits outside the main typhoon belt, so severe storms are rare compared to northern Luzon.
For specific activities, time your visit carefully. Whale shark season in Oslob runs year-round, but visibility is best March-June. Thresher sharks at Malapascua peak during the dry season. Festival season happens mostly December-May, with Sinulog in Cebu (January) and Ati-Atihan in Kalibo (January) being the biggest parties.
