Uganda in May

Not the best time

May isn't ideal for Uganda. Consider a different month.

All Months

Dry seasons from June to August and December to February offer the best conditions. Roads stay passable, wildlife congregates around water sources, and gorilla trekking becomes less muddy. June through August brings peak season pricing and crowds, especially in Bwindi. Book gorilla permits six months ahead during these months. Temperatures stay comfortable in highland areas. December to February provides excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather near rivers and lakes. Morning game drives work best before afternoon heat builds. This period also sees fewer tourists than mid-year. March to May brings heavy rains that can wash out roads and cancel flights. Some lodges close entirely. But rates drop significantly, and you'll have parks almost to yourself if you can handle the mud. September to November offers shoulder season benefits – lower prices, fewer crowds, and decent weather. Light rains refresh the landscape without creating major transport problems. Gorilla trekking permits become easier to secure.
