April through November offers the best balance of weather and crowds. Summer (December to February) brings warm days perfect for beach access at Gibson Steps, but expect tour buses and packed viewing platforms. Winter (June to August) delivers dramatic storm-watching opportunities – the waves crash spectacularly against the stacks. But beach access often closes due to dangerous conditions. Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are sweet spots with mild weather and fewer visitors. For photography, golden hour happens around 6:30am in summer and 7:30am in winter for sunrise. Sunset times vary from 5:30pm in winter to 8:30pm in summer. Check weather forecasts – coastal fog can roll in quickly and ruin visibility.
