Skip summer unless you enjoy feeling like you're inside a hair dryer. July and August regularly hit 100°F with crushing humidity. Spring and fall offer perfect weather — think 70s during the day, 50s at night. October brings the best weather of the year, plus fall colors along the river. March through May works great too, though spring storms can roll through. Winter stays mild compared to northern cities, but ice storms occasionally shut everything down for a day or two. The Mayfest arts festival in May draws huge crowds, so book ahead. November through February sees the fewest tourists and lowest hotel rates.
