Tohoku in June

Good time to visit

June is a reasonable time to visit Tohoku.

All Months

April and May bring Tohoku's spring awakening without Tokyo's crowds. Cherry blossoms bloom later here — Hirosaki's castle grounds peak in early May when 2,600 trees create pink snow. Temperatures hover around 60°F, perfect for temple hiking and hanami picnics. October and November deliver autumn's grand finale. Maple leaves turn the mountains into stained glass windows, while harvest festivals celebrate rice, apples, and persimmons. The weather stays crisp but comfortable — ideal for hot spring soaks and hearty regional cuisine. Summer brings festivals but also humidity and crowds. Winter transforms Tohoku into a wonderland of deep powder and frozen waterfalls, but brutal cold and heavy snow can trap you indoors for days. Ginzan Onsen looks magical under snow, but getting there becomes an adventure in itself.
