Syria in July

Not the best time

July isn't ideal for Syria. Consider a different month.

All Months

Syria's Mediterranean climate means mild winters and hot, dry summers. April through May brings wildflowers to the Anti-Lebanon mountains. September through November offers perfect temperatures for exploring archaeological sites. Avoid July and August when Damascus hits 40°C (104°F). The desert around Palmyra becomes unbearable. But spring mornings in the Qalamoun mountains, north of Damascus, stay cool enough for hiking. Winter brings snow to the coastal mountains. The Krak des Chevaliers looks dramatic against white peaks. But here's the current reality: timing your visit depends more on political stability than weather. Monitor government travel advisories. When Syria reopens to tourism, shoulder seasons will still offer the best combination of comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds.
