Swiss National Park in June

Great time to visit

June is one of the best months to visit Swiss National Park.

All Months

June through September is your window, but each month brings different rewards. June means wildflowers carpeting the valleys — gentians, alpine roses, and edelweiss if you're lucky. But also lingering snow on higher trails and unpredictable weather. July and August offer the most reliable conditions. All trails are open, wildlife is active, and you'll have 14 hours of daylight to work with. Downside? This is peak season, so popular trails like the Macun lakes loop get crowded by Swiss standards — meaning you might encounter other hikers. September is the sweet spot for serious hikers. Crowds thin out, temperatures cool to perfect hiking weather, and the larch trees turn golden. But weather windows get shorter, and early snow can close high-altitude trails with little warning. October can be magical with fresh snow dusting the peaks, but come prepared for winter conditions.
