May through September gives you the best weather and longest days, but each month serves different purposes. September offers fewer crowds and spectacular fall colors, especially in Lapland where the leaves turn golden in early September. But here's the thing about Swedish seasons: winter isn't just something to endure. December through March brings northern lights, dog sledding, and the chance to stay in an actual ice hotel. The Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi rebuilds every October with new artists creating ice sculptures in every room. Temperatures drop to -40°C in Lapland, but modern gear and heated buildings make it manageable. Spring (April-May) can be muddy and unpredictable — locals call it 'fifth season' for good reason.
