Southwestern Pennsylvania in July
Good time to visit
July is a reasonable time to visit Southwestern Pennsylvania.
All Months
April through June gives you the best weather without summer crowds. Temperatures hit the 70s, trees leaf out, and you can hike without sweating through your shirt. The downside? Rain happens frequently in spring, so pack layers.
September and October are perfect if you can swing it. Fall colors peak in early October throughout the Laurel Highlands, and you'll have crisp hiking weather. Plus, football season means Steelers games if you're into that scene.
Summer gets humid and buggy, especially if you're camping or hiking. But it's prime time for whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River — water levels stay consistent through August. Winter brings snow to the mountains, making this a decent budget ski destination at Seven Springs or Hidden Valley.
