South Carolina in March

Great time to visit

March is one of the best months to visit South Carolina.

All Months

March through May brings perfect weather and blooming gardens - azaleas peak in early April across Charleston's historic district. Fall (October-November) offers comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds, plus gorgeous foliage in the upcountry. Summer means beach season but also oppressive heat and humidity, especially inland. Expect 90°F+ temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms from June through August. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in September. Winter stays mild by Northern standards - 50s and 60s - but many coastal attractions close. Spring break crowds descend on Myrtle Beach in March, while Charleston gets slammed during wedding season (April-June). Book accommodations early for Spoleto Festival in late May or any major college football weekend in Columbia.
