Songkran

Songkran in July

Not the best time

July isn't ideal for Songkran. Consider a different month.

All Months

April 13-15 are the official dates, but celebrations start earlier and end later depending on the city. Bangkok kicks off around April 10 with full chaos by the 13th. Chiang Mai celebrates April 13-18, with the most intense action on April 15 around Tha Phae Gate. Avoid April 13 if crowds stress you out — it's absolute madness everywhere. April 14 offers the best balance of energy without overwhelming crowds. Mornings are calmer with temple ceremonies before afternoon water wars begin. Weather is brutally hot — 35°C+ daily. The water actually feels refreshing, not shocking. Pack light, quick-dry clothes and sandals with good grip. Book flights early. Prices spike 200-300% during Songkran week. Consider arriving a few days before or staying after when prices drop and you can explore normally.
