Slovenia in April

May through September offers the best weather, but each month brings different advantages. May sees wildflowers carpeting the valleys and fewer tourists at major sights. June brings perfect hiking weather and long days – sunset doesn't come until after 9 PM. July and August deliver guaranteed sunshine but also peak crowds and prices. Lake Bled gets busy, though nothing like Switzerland's tourist hordes. Book accommodations well in advance. September might be ideal: warm days, cool nights, harvest season in wine country, and golden light that photographers dream about. Winter transforms Slovenia into a different country. The Alps offer decent skiing at Kranjska Gora and Vogel, while Ljubljana's Christmas market creates a cozy atmosphere. But many mountain roads close, coastal towns go into hibernation, and daylight becomes precious. Come for winter sports or Christmas markets, not sightseeing.
