Skeleton Coast in March
Not the best time
March isn't ideal for Skeleton Coast. Consider a different month.
All Months
April through October gives you the best shot at clear skies and manageable temperatures. But 'manageable' is relative here - daytime temperatures still hit 25°C, and nights can drop to 5°C. The fog lifts more often during these months, which means better visibility for photography and wildlife spotting.
May and June are sweet spots. The tourist crowds thin out after Easter, but weather stays cooperative. This is when desert elephants are most active around the ephemeral rivers, and seal pupping season creates drama on the beaches.
Avoid November through March unless you enjoy being sandblasted. Summer brings wind that can strip paint off vehicles, and temperatures that make walking uncomfortable after 10 AM. The upside? Accommodation prices drop, and you'll have the place mostly to yourself.
Here's something most guides won't tell you: fog season has its own magic. Yes, visibility drops to 50 meters some mornings. But when it lifts around noon, the light becomes otherworldly. Photography conditions go from impossible to spectacular in minutes.
