Sikkim in October

Great time to visit

October is one of the best months to visit Sikkim.

All Months

March through May offers the best weather overall. Temperatures in Gangtok range from 15-20°C during the day, perfect for walking around. Rhododendrons bloom across the state, painting hillsides pink and red. This is peak season, so book accommodations early. October and November bring crystal-clear mountain views after monsoon clouds clear. The air feels crisp and clean. Temperatures drop to 10-15°C in most areas, requiring light jackets. This is arguably the best time for photography – the Himalayas appear sharp against blue skies. Winter (December-February) gets cold but rewards hardy travelers with snow-covered landscapes and smaller crowds. Gangtok sees temperatures around 5-10°C. Higher elevations like Pelling can drop below freezing. Many guesthouses in remote areas close, limiting accommodation options. Avoid June through September – monsoon season. Heavy rains trigger landslides that block roads for days. The mountains disappear behind clouds, and leeches emerge in forests. Some areas become completely inaccessible. Here's insider knowledge: late February and early March offer a sweet spot. Tourist crowds haven't arrived yet, weather starts improving, and you might catch snow at higher elevations while enjoying mild temperatures in valleys.
