Schwabing in October

Schwabing works year-round, but spring through early fall gives you the full experience. May through September means outdoor seating at every café, impromptu concerts in small venues with windows thrown open, and the English Garden becoming an extension of every bar's patio. Summer brings street festivals and outdoor art exhibitions, plus those long Munich evenings where 9pm still feels like afternoon. But winter has its own appeal – cozy bars become even cozier, and there's something romantic about snow falling on those narrow cobblestone streets. Avoid major university exam periods in February and July if you want the full student energy. The neighborhood gets noticeably quieter when everyone's cramming for finals. Christmas markets pop up in December, but they're smaller and more local than the tourist spectacles downtown.
