Sarawak in March

Good time to visit

March is a reasonable time to visit Sarawak.

All Months

May through October offers the driest weather, though 'dry' is relative in a tropical rainforest. Expect afternoon showers even during the dry season, but they're usually brief and cooling. Temperatures hover around 30°C year-round with high humidity. June and July see the most visitors, especially in the national parks. Accommodation fills up and prices spike during Malaysian school holidays. If you can swing it, May and September offer better weather with fewer crowds. The northeast monsoon runs from November through March, bringing heavier rains and rough seas. Some boat services to remote areas get cancelled during this period. But here's the thing – the rain also brings out wildlife. Orangutans are more active, and the rivers run full for better longhouse access. Avoid Chinese New Year in January or February unless you enjoy everything being closed. The same goes for major Malaysian holidays like Hari Raya. Local festivals like the Rainforest World Music Festival in July can be worth timing your trip around.
