Sarawak in June
Great time to visit
June is one of the best months to visit Sarawak.
All Months
Sarawak's equatorial climate means it's hot and humid year-round, but the dry season from March to August offers the best conditions for jungle trekking and cave exploration. Rainfall drops significantly during these months, making river travel more predictable and hiking trails less muddy. The Rajang River runs lower, exposing more rapids that add excitement to longboat journeys upriver. Wildlife spotting improves during drier months as animals concentrate around water sources. But even the dry season brings afternoon downpours - pack waterproof gear regardless. The wet season from September to February sees heavy rains that can flood rivers and make some areas inaccessible. However, this is when the jungle explodes with life. Waterfalls run at full force, and the bird watching reaches its peak. Local festivals like Gawai Dayak in June celebrate the rice harvest with traditional dancing and plenty of tuak. The Rainforest World Music Festival in July draws international performers to Kuching - book accommodation well in advance. Avoid Chinese New Year and Hari Raya periods when transport fills up and prices spike.
