Samoa (Upolu) in April

Good time to visit

April is a reasonable time to visit Samoa (Upolu).

All Months

May through October delivers Upolu's sweet spot — less rain, lower humidity, and trade winds that actually provide relief from the heat. Temperatures hover around 26-28°C, perfect for beach days without melting into a puddle. The dry season coincides with whale watching season. Humpback whales pass through Samoan waters from June to October, and several operators run whale watching tours from Apia harbor. Success rates are highest in August and September. Avoid November through April if you can — this is cyclone season, and while direct hits are rare, the weather can be unpredictable. The humidity becomes oppressive, and afternoon thunderstorms are almost guaranteed. That said, accommodation prices drop significantly, and you'll have beaches mostly to yourself. June brings the Teuila Festival, Samoa's biggest cultural celebration. Hotels book up months in advance, but the traditional dancing, fire shows, and food stalls make it worth planning around. The festival runs for a week and showcases the best of Samoan culture. December and January are popular with New Zealand and Australian families on summer holidays. Expect higher prices and crowded beaches, especially around Christmas and New Year.
