Sacred Valley in October
Good time to visit
October is a reasonable time to visit Sacred Valley.
All Months
May through September delivers the Sacred Valley's sweet spot - clear skies, dry trails, and temperatures that hover around 20°C during the day. This is peak season, so expect crowds at major sites like Pisac and Ollantaytambo, especially on weekends when tour buses roll in from Cusco.
July and August see the most visitors but also the most reliable weather. If you're planning to hike the Inca Trail or attempt any high-altitude treks, these months give you the best chance of clear mountain views. Just book accommodations early - the better hotels fill up months in advance.
April and October offer shoulder season advantages. Fewer crowds, lower prices, and weather that's still mostly dry with occasional afternoon showers. The landscapes look greener after the rainy season ends in March, and you'll have ruins mostly to yourself early in the morning.
November through March brings the rains. And when it rains in the Sacred Valley, it really rains. Roads wash out, hiking trails turn treacherous, and that perfect photo of Ollantaytambo gets obscured by clouds. But here's the upside - hotel rates drop by 30-40%, and you'll experience the valley as locals do, not tourists.
If you must visit during rainy season, pack good rain gear and flexible plans. Some days you'll get lucky with morning sunshine before afternoon downpours. Other days, you'll spend hours in cafes waiting for the weather to clear. But the valley looks incredibly lush and green, and you'll pay a fraction of dry season prices.
