May through September offers the best weather across most of Russia, but timing depends on your goals. Winter travel works if you're chasing the Trans-Siberian experience or want to see Moscow covered in snow, but pack serious cold-weather gear. January temperatures in Siberia regularly hit -30°C. Spring brings mud season to rural areas, making some roads impassable.
