Riga in February
Not the best time
February isn't ideal for Riga. Consider a different month.
All Months
May through September offers the best weather, with July hitting peak warmth around 22°C (72°F). But here's the thing — Riga's architecture looks stunning year-round, and fewer crowds in shoulder seasons mean better photos and lower prices.
June brings White Nights when darkness barely arrives. The city stays lively until late, outdoor cafes fill up, and you can explore until 10 PM with natural light. Perfect for architecture photography and long walking tours.
September delivers ideal conditions. Temperatures stay comfortable around 18°C (64°F), autumn colors complement the Art Nouveau buildings beautifully, and tourist crowds thin out. Hotel prices drop but restaurants and attractions maintain full schedules.
Winter transforms Riga into a different city entirely. Snow covers the medieval rooftops, Christmas markets fill Old Town squares, and the Art Nouveau buildings look dramatic against grey skies. Just pack serious winter gear — temperatures drop to -5°C (23°F) regularly.
Avoid March and April. The weather can't decide between winter and spring, everything looks muddy and grey, and many outdoor attractions remain closed. Wait until May when the city properly wakes up.
