Phuket Old Town in August

Not the best time

August isn't ideal for Phuket Old Town. Consider a different month.

All Months

November through April gives you the sweet spot — dry weather, cooler temperatures, and the best light for photographing those colorful facades. December and January are peak season, so expect crowds and higher prices. February and March hit the perfect balance. You get great weather without the Christmas rush, and hotel rates drop by about 30%. The Chinese New Year celebrations in February turn the streets into a festival of lion dances and firecrackers. April gets hot — we're talking 35°C in the shade hot — but it's also when locals celebrate Songkran. The water fights spill into Old Town's narrow alleys, creating a uniquely chaotic and fun atmosphere. Avoid May through October unless you enjoy getting drenched. The monsoon rains turn these streets into rivers, and many of the outdoor cafes close their terraces. Some travelers love the dramatic storms, but you'll be dodging downpours between temples. Early morning visits work best regardless of season. The streets come alive around 7 AM when vendors set up their stalls, but the tour buses don't arrive until 10 AM.
