Perito Moreno Glacier in November

Great time to visit

November is one of the best months to visit Perito Moreno Glacier.

All Months

November through March offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours – sunrise around 6 AM, sunset after 9 PM in December. This is peak calving season when the glacier is most active, but it's also when El Calafate fills with tour buses and accommodation prices double. December and January bring the crowds but also the most dramatic ice action. The glacier moves fastest during warm weather, creating more frequent calving events. Expect to share viewing platforms with hundreds of other visitors during midday hours. Early morning visits (8-10 AM) offer smaller crowds and better light for photography. March hits the sweet spot – still warm enough for ice trekking but with fewer tourists. The autumn colors in the surrounding lenga forests add another layer of beauty to your photos. November can be windy and unpredictable, but you'll often have the glacier nearly to yourself. Winter visits (June-August) are possible but limited. Ice trekking tours don't run, and weather can ground boat trips. But if you score a clear day, the glacier against snow-covered mountains creates an otherworldly scene.
