Peak District National Park in April
Great time to visit
April is one of the best months to visit Peak District National Park.
All Months
May through September offers the most reliable weather, though 'reliable' is relative in the Peak District. July and August bring crowds to Chatsworth House and the main villages. Book accommodation early for summer weekends. September hits the sweet spot — fewer people, clearer air, and the heather blooms purple across the moors. Winter hiking is possible but serious. Snow can last for weeks on Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. The peat bogs freeze solid, making navigation even trickier. Spring arrives late here — expect snow into April on the high moors. But the limestone dales warm up earlier, and wildflowers appear in May. Avoid bank holiday weekends unless you enjoy queuing for car parks. Weekday visits, especially Tuesday through Thursday, give you the trails mostly to yourself.
