Palau in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Palau. Consider a different month.
All Months
November through April offers the best conditions — calmer seas, less rain, and visibility that can reach 200 feet underwater. This is peak season, so book accommodations early and expect higher prices. December and January see the most visitors, particularly Japanese tourists escaping winter.
The dry season isn't completely dry — you'll still get afternoon showers, but they're brief and warm. Water temperature stays around 82°F year-round, so you won't need a thick wetsuit. Trade winds pick up in February and March, which can make boat rides choppy but creates excellent conditions for sailing.
Avoid May through October if possible. It's not just the rain — it's the humidity, stronger currents, and reduced visibility that can drop to 60 feet on bad days. But here's the upside: accommodation prices drop by 30-40%, and you'll have dive sites largely to yourself. Just pack serious rain gear and flexible diving plans.
