Outback in October

April through September offers the sweet spot—warm days around 25°C and cool nights that might drop to 5°C. July brings the peak season crowds to Uluru, but also perfect hiking weather and clear night skies for stargazing. October through March is summer, when temperatures soar past 40°C and the sun becomes a legitimate enemy. Alice Springs recorded 47.5°C in January 2019, and that's in the shade. The wet season (December to March) brings sporadic rainfall that can flood roads and create spectacular wildflower blooms—if you're lucky enough to time it right. But most years, the wet season just means more heat and humidity without much actual wet.
