Oregon in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Oregon. Consider a different month.

All Months

Summer is obvious — July through September gives you dry weather and access to high-elevation trails. But here's what the guidebooks won't tell you: late spring and early fall might be better. May brings wildflower blooms to the Columbia River Gorge without the crowds, and October delivers fall colors in the Willamette Valley plus harvest season at wineries. Winter on the coast is dramatic — storm watching from a cozy inn beats summer's tourist circus. Just pack rain gear. The high desert around Bend gets 300 days of sunshine, making it Oregon's year-round destination. Crater Lake stays snowed in until June most years, so plan accordingly. And look, Oregon's reputation for rain is overblown — most of it falls between November and March, leaving the rest of the year surprisingly dry.
