June brings heavy rains and humidity, while July-September delivers scorching heat, typhoons, and peak tourist crowds. Cherry blossoms bloom in January here, months before mainland Japan. The rainy season typically runs from early May through mid-June. If you do visit in summer, expect temperatures above 30°C with crushing humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. But summer also brings the best diving conditions and vibrant festival season, including the massive Eisa drum dancing performances in August.
