Okavango Delta in November

Good time to visit

November is a reasonable time to visit Okavango Delta.

All Months

The Okavango's seasons flip everything you expect about African safaris. High water season runs May through September, when floods from Angola reach the delta and wildlife concentrates on islands. This means incredible game viewing but also higher prices and fully booked camps. July and August offer the best of both worlds – peak wildlife activity with slightly lower water levels for easier walking safaris. Dry season (October through April) brings different rewards: easier land-based game drives, lower accommodation rates, and baby animals during the November to February birthing season. But here's the catch – October and November get seriously hot, with temperatures hitting 40°C (104°F). April and May offer a sweet spot with moderate temperatures and the first flood waters arriving. Each camp's location affects the optimal timing – permanent water areas like Jao or Vumbura stay productive year-round, while seasonal camps might close during extreme dry periods.
