Northeast India in February

Great time to visit

February is one of the best months to visit Northeast India.

All Months

October through March offers the best weather across Northeast India, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures. This dry season lets you actually see the Himalayan peaks, which disappear behind clouds for much of the year. December and January bring crisp mountain air perfect for trekking, though higher elevations like Tawang can get snow. The Hornbill Festival in Nagaland happens in early December, making it peak season there. February and March warm up gradually, with rhododendrons blooming across Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. April starts getting hot in the plains but remains pleasant in the hills. Then comes monsoon season from May through September—avoid this time unless you enjoy landslides and washed-out roads. Cherrapunji receives over 400 inches of rain annually, mostly during these months. But monsoons also create the region's famous waterfalls and turn everything impossibly green. Some areas become completely inaccessible. October marks the end of rains and the beginning of festival season across the tribal communities.
