May through October gives you the full Mystic experience, but each season brings different crowds and prices. Summer weekends turn downtown into a slow-moving parade of families and tour buses – hotel rates peak around $300+ per night, and restaurant waits stretch to an hour. But the weather's perfect for walking around the seaport and eating ice cream by the water. September and October deliver the sweet spot: warm days, fewer crowds, and fall foliage reflecting in the Mystic River. Spring arrives late here – May can still feel chilly, but you'll find parking easily and restaurants offer better service. Winter sees many attractions reduce hours, though the holiday celebrations at Mystic Seaport create a cozy atmosphere with fewer tourists. Avoid the first weekend of August when the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival brings extra crowds, unless you're specifically coming for that.
