Mount Rainier National Park in July

Great time to visit

July is one of the best months to visit Mount Rainier National Park.

All Months

July through September delivers Rainier at its most accessible. Snow clears from high-elevation trails, wildflowers peak in late July and early August, and you can actually see the mountain more than half the time. But everyone knows this, so expect crowds. Early October offers a sweet spot—fewer people, golden larches, and crisp air, though weather becomes less predictable. June means lower trails are clear while high country stays snowy, perfect if you prefer forest walks to alpine scrambles. Winter transforms Rainier into a snow sports playground, but only the road to Paradise stays open year-round. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing replace hiking from December through April. Spring arrives late here—May still means snow at Paradise. The mountain creates its own microclimate, so weather forecasts for Seattle mean nothing once you're inside the park. Check current conditions before heading up, and always have a backup plan.
