Go between November and May when the trails stay dry and accessible. December through February offers the coolest temperatures – important when you're bouncing around in an open jeep under the tropical sun. March and April are hottest but still manageable if you start early. Most tours leave Manila around 3 AM to reach the trailhead by sunrise, avoiding the worst heat. Avoid June through October completely. The monsoon rains make the lahar fields impassable, and tour operators often suspend trips entirely. Even if you could reach the crater, the lake turns muddy brown from runoff. Weekdays see fewer crowds, especially Tuesday through Thursday. Weekend tours can feel like a convoy with dozens of jeeps kicking up dust clouds. The experience feels more authentic when you're not queuing for crater rim photos.
