Meghalaya in May
Good time to visit
May is a reasonable time to visit Meghalaya.
All Months
October through March gives you the sweet spot — minimal rain, clear skies, and temperatures between 60-75°F. This is waterfall season when everything runs full but you can actually see them without rain gear. December and January get chilly at night, dropping to 40°F in Shillong. Pack layers. April and May heat up but stay dry. Good for trekking before the monsoon hits. But here's the thing about monsoon season (June-September) — it's spectacular if you can handle the rain. Waterfalls roar at full power. The landscape turns electric green. And you'll have places mostly to yourself since most tourists stay away. Just know that roads wash out, treks become dangerous, and you'll be soaked constantly. The living root bridges actually look more impressive when wet — the aerial roots glisten and the jungle canopy provides some cover. If you're here for photography, early morning (6-8 AM) gives you the best light and fewer crowds at popular spots like Nohkalikai Falls.
