Maui in March
Good time to visit
March is a reasonable time to visit Maui.
All Months
April through June gives you the sweet spot—whale season just ended, summer crowds haven't arrived, and trade winds keep things comfortable. Hotel rates drop after Easter, and you'll actually find parking at popular beaches.
September and October work well too. Hurricane season is technically happening, but storms rarely hit Maui directly. The water's warmest for snorkeling, and you'll catch the end of mango season at local farmers markets.
Avoid July and August unless you love crowds and premium prices. Every family vacation happens then, and good luck getting dinner reservations anywhere decent. December through March brings humpback whales, which is incredible, but also brings everyone else who wants to see them.
Here's what nobody tells you: Maui's weather changes dramatically by location. Lahaina stays dry and hot year-round, while Hana gets 400 inches of rain annually. Pack layers even in summer—that sunset dinner in upcountry Makawao will be 20 degrees cooler than your afternoon at Wailea Beach.
Trade winds usually kick in by afternoon, making even 85-degree days comfortable. But when they die down, the humidity hits hard. Check the wind forecast before planning outdoor activities.
