Maritimes in March
Not the best time
March isn't ideal for Maritimes. Consider a different month.
All Months
Summer means crowds but also means everything is open. July and August bring warm water (relatively speaking — it's still the North Atlantic), festival season, and long days that stretch past 9 PM. This is peak lobster season too, when the boats are hauling traps daily.
But here's the thing: September and October might be even better. The crowds thin out, accommodation prices drop, and the fall colors are spectacular, especially along the Cabot Trail. The water's still warm enough for swimming if you're brave, and restaurants stay open through Canadian Thanksgiving in October.
June works well if you don't mind cooler water and the occasional rainy day. Lupins bloom purple across PEI's fields, and you'll have many attractions to yourself.
Winter is harsh and many seasonal businesses close, but if you're into cross-country skiing or want to see the region like locals do, January through March offers a different kind of beauty. Just pack serious winter gear and check road conditions.
Avoid November and early December unless you enjoy gray skies and cold rain. It's the shoulder season for good reason.
