Makkah Province in June
Not the best time
June isn't ideal for Makkah Province. Consider a different month.
All Months
Hajj occurs during Dhul Hijjah (roughly July-August in recent years, but shifts annually with the lunar calendar). This brings massive crowds – over two million pilgrims – and extreme heat reaching 45°C. Hotels triple their prices and the city becomes nearly impassable. Umrah pilgrimage happens year-round, but winter months (November through March) offer the most comfortable weather. Temperatures hover around 25-30°C, perfect for outdoor rituals. Ramadan creates a special atmosphere with extended mosque hours and community iftars, though daytime activities slow down. The shoulder seasons of October and April see moderate crowds and decent weather. Summer months bring punishing heat but fewer pilgrims, making it easier to access holy sites. Taif becomes popular during summer as Saudis escape to its cooler mountains. The Rose Festival in April showcases the region's agricultural heritage. Avoid planning around Saudi National Day (September 23rd) when domestic tourism peaks. Check the Islamic calendar before booking – religious holidays can affect transportation and accommodation availability.
