July and August bring crowds but also long days and perfect weather for hiking. September might be ideal – warm days, cool nights, and the tour buses thin out after school starts. The autumn colors reflect beautifully in the lake, and hotel prices drop by 30%. Skip winter unless you're here for Christmas markets. The lake stays grey, many attractions close, and you'll miss the mountain views behind constant clouds. But if you do come in December, the old town transforms into a winter wonderland with mulled wine stands and twinkling lights.
