Luanda in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Luanda. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through September gives you Luanda's dry season—the only time that makes sense for visitors. Temperatures hover around 75-80°F, humidity drops to bearable levels, and you won't get soaked walking between buildings. July and August are peak months. The weather stays consistently pleasant, but hotel prices jump 30-40%. Book accommodations well ahead, especially if you're visiting during the Luanda International Jazz Festival in July. September offers the sweet spot. Weather remains dry and comfortable, crowds thin out, and prices drop back to normal levels. The city feels more relaxed after the tourist rush. Avoid October through April completely. The rainy season turns streets into rivers, humidity makes everything sticky, and afternoon thunderstorms shut down outdoor plans. December and January see the worst flooding, with some neighborhoods becoming inaccessible. Weekends get crazy regardless of season. Friday and Saturday nights mean traffic gridlock until 2 AM, restaurants pack beyond capacity, and hotel rates spike for no apparent reason.
