Lofoten Islands in April

Good time to visit

April is a reasonable time to visit Lofoten Islands.

All Months

May through September offers the most reliable weather and longest days. But each month brings different rewards. June and July deliver midnight sun - the sun never sets, just circles the sky. Temperatures hit 60-70°F and hiking trails are mostly snow-free. This is peak season though. Accommodations book up months ahead and prices spike. May and September offer sweet spots. Fewer crowds, lower prices, but still decent weather. May can be unpredictable - you might get snow or 65°F sunshine. September brings autumn colors and Northern Lights start appearing. August balances everything well. Weather is most stable, trails are in best condition, and you still get white nights even if not true midnight sun. Winter (October-March) is for serious Northern Lights chasers and photographers. The aurora season peaks December-February. But expect harsh weather, limited daylight, and many attractions closed. Only attempt winter visits if you're comfortable with challenging conditions. Here's what locals won't tell you - weather is unpredictable year-round. Pack layers always. That sunny morning can turn into sideways rain by lunch.
