May through September delivers Lilongwe at its finest. The dry season means clear skies, comfortable temperatures around 75°F, and roads you can actually navigate. This is peak tourist season for good reason — everything works better when it's not raining. July gets busy with South African school holidays, but Lilongwe never feels truly crowded. October and November bring heat that builds toward the rainy season. December through April sees afternoon thunderstorms that can flood streets and make travel tricky. But the landscape turns brilliantly green, and accommodation prices drop by half. The rains usually hit in short, intense bursts rather than all-day drizzles. If you don't mind getting wet occasionally, the shoulder months of April and November offer the best deals and fewer crowds. Just pack a good rain jacket and flexible plans.
