Langtang Valley in September

Good time to visit

September is a reasonable time to visit Langtang Valley.

All Months

October through November delivers Langtang's golden season—crystal-clear mountain views, stable weather, and comfortable temperatures. Daytime highs reach 15-20°C at valley level, dropping to freezing at night above 3,500 meters. The post-monsoon clarity reveals every peak in sharp detail. March through May offers the second-best window, with rhododendron forests exploding in pink and red blooms. Spring brings warmer days but afternoon clouds often obscure mountain views. December through February turns brutally cold—temperatures plummet to -15°C at Kyanjin Gompa, and heavy snow blocks higher passes. But winter brings solitude and pristine snow-covered landscapes for hardcore trekkers. June through September means monsoon season: daily downpours, leeches, and cloud-covered peaks make trekking miserable. The trails turn to mud, landslides block routes, and mountain views disappear for weeks. Local teahouses often close during peak monsoon months. For photography, visit in October when morning light illuminates snow-capped peaks against deep blue skies.
