Lake Victoria in May
Not the best time
May isn't ideal for Lake Victoria. Consider a different month.
All Months
The dry seasons from June through September and December through February offer the best lake conditions. Water levels stay consistent, ferries run more reliably, and you can actually see the horizon through the haze.
June through August brings the coolest temperatures—around 75°F during the day. This is peak season for fishing, so expect villages to be busiest. Hotel prices jump about 30% during these months, especially in Entebbe.
December through February offers the warmest weather and calmest waters. Perfect for swimming if you're brave enough to share with the hippos. The Christmas and New Year period gets crowded with regional tourists, but by late January things quiet down.
Avoid March through May and October through November. The long rains turn roads to mud, boats get cancelled, and mosquitoes multiply. Some island lodges close completely during these months.
