Kumaon in February
Not the best time
February isn't ideal for Kumaon. Consider a different month.
All Months
March through May offers the clearest mountain views and blooming rhododendrons, but also the biggest crowds in popular spots like Nainital. Temperatures hover around 15-25°C during the day, perfect for walking and outdoor activities. September through November brings post-monsoon clarity with crisp air and golden light that photographers love. The crowds thin out, and hotel prices drop significantly. Winter from December to February transforms the region – snow blankets higher elevations while lower areas like Nainital remain accessible. But many high-altitude destinations like Munsiyari become unreachable due to snow. Summer heat doesn't penetrate these altitudes, making Kumaon a natural escape from the plains. However, July and August bring heavy monsoons that trigger landslides and make roads dangerous. The shoulder seasons – late March to early May and September to November – offer the best balance of weather, accessibility, and reasonable crowds. For serious trekking, stick to April-May and September-October when trails are clear and weather stable.
