Kandy Region in April

Great time to visit

April is one of the best months to visit Kandy Region.

All Months

December through April offers the region's driest weather and clearest mountain views. This is peak season — hotel prices double and trains fill up fast. January and February give you the best combination of clear skies and comfortable temperatures. But here's what changes with elevation. Kandy stays warm year-round, hitting 30°C in the afternoons. Nuwara Eliya drops to 5°C on December nights — you'll need proper jackets. The southwest monsoon hits May through September, bringing heavy rains that turn mountain roads treacherous. October and November mark the transition period with afternoon thunderstorms but clearer mornings. Adam's Peak pilgrimage season runs December to May, when thousands climb the sacred mountain. If you're planning to hike, avoid the monsoon months entirely. Tea harvest happens twice yearly — April-May and October-November — when estates buzz with activity. The shoulder months of March and November offer decent weather with fewer crowds and better prices.
