Italian Riviera in February

Not the best time

February isn't ideal for Italian Riviera. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through June offers ideal conditions — warm weather, blooming wildflowers, and manageable crowds. Hiking trails stay comfortable, restaurants have full menus, and accommodation prices remain reasonable. The sea warms enough for swimming by late May. July and August bring peak season intensity. Temperatures hit 85°F regularly, trains pack with day-trippers, and restaurant reservations become essential. Cinque Terre villages can feel claustrophobic with cruise ship crowds. But this is when beach clubs fully operate and nightlife comes alive in resort towns. September and October provide the sweet spot for many travelers. Summer crowds thin out while weather stays warm and sunny. Grape harvest season means wine festivals throughout the region. October storms can arrive suddenly, but clear days offer incredible light for photography. Winter transforms the Riviera into a local scene. Many restaurants and hotels close from November through March, but those that remain open offer authentic experiences. Genoa maintains full activity year-round, while smaller villages can feel almost abandoned. Temperatures rarely drop below 45°F, making it pleasant for city exploration. Spring arrives early here — February often brings sunny days perfect for hiking. Easter weekend marks the unofficial season opening, when businesses reopen and locals emerge for their first beach days of the year.
